Hope everyone’s having a great Tuesday so far. If anyone has been reading my latest posts, you’ll know that I was lucky enough to attend Cocoa Brown Passion Persistence Pink event on Sunday in The Shelbourne Hotel, Dublin.
I’m so happy I was invited along! It was an amazing day all round.
The lovely Marissa Carter spoke through out the day, there was fab makeup demonstrations from Marissa herself, Rosie Connolly, AJ Fitzsimons and Tara O’Farrell, the amazing product reveal (keep reading ;)) makeup demonstration and a Q&A with the fabulous make up artist Julie Carta.
I doubt I have to give an introduction to Cocoa Brown, who hasn’t heard of it?) So, I’m going to jump right in and give you all the details from this fab day!
The day itself was even gorgeous, the sun was shining while we all waited excitedly, counting the minutes until it was time to go in. All the ladies (and a handful of gents!) waited in fabulous outfits, in a queue as far as I could see.
When we arrived in The Great Room of The Shelbourne Hotel, the first thing I thought of how beautifully it was decorated! Gorgeous tables, flowers and of course a pink tint to the room 😉
The gorgeous Marissa Carter obviously kicked off the event, speaking of her experience to get Cocoa Brown where it is, thanking who helped her on the way, and basically getting us so excited for the day! One thing I must say is she is one person who I really admire. A great business woman, mother, gorgeous, hilarious, kind & genuine. How can she be faulted?
Then came the panel of make up artists/bloggers, this included AJ Fitsimons of ajmakeup.com, Tara O’Farrell of tara-makeup.com, Rosie Connolly of heartsheelsandhandbags.blogspot.ie and Marissa Carter herself.
All these fab ladies demonstrated ombre lips on their models. I always thought that an ombre lip would be impossible to do with out a makeup artistry qualification, but they made it look almost too easy! Definitely a look I will be trying.
I made sure to write down a few tips during the Q&A, I have a head like a sieve so I couldn’t of let myself forget anything!
Rosie’s top tips for choosing the right lipstick for your skin colour was to swatch the shades before you buy, especially with red lipstick as what you think looks like a fab colour can look completely different next to another colour. Swatch everything!
Tara’s top tips were using a peach toned concealer for covering any purple areas of the skin, such as veins or any discolouration. Another great tip was to make small eyes look bigger, is to draw your eyeliner as thin as possible, the thinner the liner the bigger your eye looks!
Aj’s top tips were to experiment with lip liner (which I don’t do enough of!) and to keep your lips in good condition. So simple, yet so important! If your lips aren’t in good condition, how do you expect your lipstick to look well?
All ladies agreed on using a blue under-toned lipstick to make your teeth look whiter. Ask the makeup artist at the counter for a blue under-toned lippie next time you’re lipstick shopping and it’ll make your teeth look sparkling 😉
I got a chance to speak with AJ Fitzsimons, & she is so lovely! I’ve been following her work and her blog for a while so I was delighted to meet her, so gorgeous! If only I could do my makeup that way! Haha..
Next up, we had Marissa Carter demonstrating ‘tontouring‘ on her sister, Colleen. Tontouring has blown up in the past month or so. If you have been doing a Harry Potter on it and living under the stairs, tontouring is basically giving you face a more natural contoured look using tan. To get that chiseled cheekbone look, you’ll need a gradual and a dark tan, (CB Gentle Bronze & 1 Hour Tan maybe!) a flat head brush and a stippling foundation brush.
So, to start off, apply a light of layer Gentle Bronze all over the face – avoid the eyebrows and eye area, especially if you have dark circles as the tan will only darken them.
Gentle Bronze gives a light base, it’s two thirds lighter than CB’s 1 Hour Tan so it’s perfect for an all over colour for the face.
Then, using 1 Hour Tan, apply it where you would normally contour, across the hairline, under cheekbones, under the chin area, under & sides of the nose.
Voila! All done and tontoured.
And then came the big reveal! Drum roll please…..
Cocoa Brown Instant Tan Bronzing Gel in Shimmer & Matte
An instant tan in either matte or shimmer, that washes off but you don’t get those little white dots from splashes throughout the day like a lot of instant tans.
I usually prefer a matte tan, but Marissa gave a sneak peak at what the shimmer tan was like on stage and it looks fab!
I can’t wait to try these two out properly, will definitely be writing a review! 🙂
After the big reveal, we were treated with our ‘swag bags’ packed with goodies! (I’ll do a separate post about all the products I was treated to that day!) As well as tea/coffee, bites to eat and of course, pink cupcakes!
How cute is the little napkin?
Marisa then welcomed Julia Carta on stage, renowned makeup artist. Known as one the best in her field, Julia has worked with celebrities such as Sienna Miller, Kiera Knightly, Denzel Washington and so many more. She has also been Simon Cowell’s personal for over a decade. She is also the brains behind the makeup on the X Factor.
She showed us a gorgeous makeup look on Marissa and was telling stories and answering questions all through.
Julia said the way to proper makeup is all about light layers and luminosity.
Of course I’ll be telling you about the goodies I received, but let’s leave that for another day 😉
